Grading Policy

For Beginning Band:

Daily grades: 50%

Daily grades are those taken for being prepared, quizzes/tests, and other in-class activities

Performances: 30%

Performances for beginning band include two concerts, one in December and one in the spring

Practice/Homework: 10%

Practice and homework grades are taken for assignments students complete outside of the classroom.  Once students begin work on an instrument they will be required to fill out a practice record to be graded each Monday.  Practice records must be signed by a parent in order to receive credit.

Participation: 10%

As the band class relies on students' participation in order to reach success, it is important that students are prepared every day to participate in the activities assigned to the best of their abilities.

For 2nd and 3rd year Band Students:

Daily grades: 40%

Daily grades are those taken for being prepared, quizzes/tests, and other in-class activities

Performances: 30%

Performances include the winter and spring concerts as well as performances at home football games in the fall and parades in the spring

Formal Assessment: 10%

Each 4 1/2 weeks students will perform for the director an excerpt of music worked on in class.  The director will fill out a form rating the performance, giving the student feedback for improvement and assigning a grade.
