Let's Get Physical!

Welcome to the Physical Education/Physical Activity and Wellness component of Coordinated School Health. Physical education provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities, to maintain physical fitness, and to value as well as enjoy physical activity as an ongoing part of a healthy lifestyle. Physical education includes curriculum, instruction and assessment that is sequential from kindergarten through high school and meets the standards outlined in the Tennessee Curriculum Standards. Physical activity in an educational setting is defined as a behavior consisting of bodily movement that requires energy expenditure above the normal physiological (muscular, cardiorespiratory) requirements of a typical school day.

Last year , Coordinated School Health provided Physical Education teachers at each of the schools $2,000 mini-grants to purchase new equipment. "Students have more opportunity to be active during gym time," P.E. instructor Adam Yates said. "We are now much better equipped. The new equipment may increase the number of kids that dress out and participate."

Some of the equipment included basketballs, dodgeballs, weight balls, golf equipment, flag football equipment, kickballs, jumpropes, and many other new and exciting games!

During the Strawberry Parade, fifth grade student Caleb Wray walked with Director Audra Henderson and Amber Justice a.k.a."Gertie the Grape" handing out bottles of water and boxes of raisins to help promote Coordinated School Health.

The Humboldt Subway donated some of the boxes of raisins that were distrubuted. We at Coordinated School Health appreciate our local businesses' support and their commitment to helping the community's educational programs.

Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center has launched the "Fit Schools" program that focuses on four West Tennessee school districts to promote good nutrition and increased physical activity in an effort to decrease childhood obesity. We are very pleased that East End Magnet Academy was chosen as a pilot site for this program.

As part of the "Fit Schools" program, Coordinated School Health assisted Le Bonheur in their "Girl Force" camp that took place July 17-19.
